BIOGRAPHY
Charlie Rock is a pioneering music producer, songwriter, DJ, and recording artist whose career spans the evolution of hip-hop, freestyle, dance, and soundtrack music. Emerging from the vibrant streets and park jams of New York City, Charlie Rock built his reputation as a skilled DJ and beat creator, performing throughout Harlem, Uptown Manhattan, and along the legendary 125th Street corridor. Early in his career, he collaborated with old-school hip-hop pioneer Pumpkin, helping shape the sound of a generation.
As one of the founding members of the influential rap group Fantasy 3, alongside Silver Fox and Larry D, Charlie Rock helped create the classic recording “It’s Your Rock,” a track that remains respected among hip-hop DJs and collectors today. The group’s success led to appearances alongside some of the most influential names in early hip-hop, including Run-D.M.C., Kurtis Blow, LL Cool J, the Cold Crush Brothers, and the Treacherous Three.
Transitioning from hip-hop into freestyle and dance music, Charlie Rock became one of the genre’s most successful producers and songwriters. He wrote and produced “What Goes Around Comes Around” for freestyle artist Giggles, earning Best Dance Song honors at the New York Music Awards. He followed that success by producing several freestyle classics, including “Dream Boy, Dream Girl” featuring Johnny O and Cynthia, as well as “Forever Yours” by Face. These recordings helped define the golden era of freestyle music and remain favorites among fans worldwide.
In addition to producing for other artists, Charlie Rock has released his own recordings, including “Missing You,” “Listen To Your Heart,” “Shot Caller,” “I’m Dat Guy,” and “FYRE.” His versatility has allowed him to move seamlessly between performing, producing, songwriting, and soundtrack work. Beyond music, he has also been involved in film soundtrack production and screenwriting projects, expanding his creative influence into entertainment and media.
Today, Charlie Rock is recognized as a respected veteran of both the hip-hop and freestyle genres—an artist whose contributions helped shape multiple eras of urban and dance music while continuing to inspire new generations of musicians, producers, and performers around the world.
